    mayday!mayday!!

    holy ****,

I just watched my entire rear end fall to the ground from the lift as i was diving out of the way. hahahahaha

was changing the struts to zx2. stocks had been there for 184K mi. everything was rotted together and all it needed was the vibration for the air gun.

list of parts is long but pretty cheap:

-new rear springs (stock, i know i know)
    -new R top hats
-new R links and control arms
    - new hardware

at least the swaybar links and mounts were intact and held some of the stuff up there long enough to not snap the brake lines.

It was fun, but fun ain't cheap.

Oops, at least it was on a lift instead of jackstands with you underneath. Guess that makes it easier than manually removing everything, seems it needed replacing anyway

exactly what i said after the shop owners comes out and shakes his head w/ furious look.

      me: "wow, that was easy!"

him: " f-something, walks back in office.

i would have rather had the time to order higher rate springs, but i need to be outta here by tonight.

Holy ****. That's just crazy. Take pics. You must have ALOT of rust for that to happen!

No pics, i had to much to think about when packing for this, didn't think of the camera.

After closer inspection, it seems that the rear springs, struts, top hats were rotted together. the body around it is all surface rust.

wire wheel and recoat with rustoleum (4 coats) fixed the affected unibody.

Everything is back on the road now. I am bummed out to have had to pay $100 for new rear springs, $45 for new rear top hats.

After the garage rental, the extra parts and the struts, the grand total= $595!!

it was pricey, but i am happy that it didn't happen on the road.

Also, got the cx battery (1/2 size of stock) in today, and the hood raising mod.

Nothing too fancy but coming along.

              hahahaha

just raising the back (windshield) side of the hood 1/4-1/2 inch to allow hot air to escape decrease the high pressure caused by hot air trapped in engine comp.

it is a useless mod for non-turbo motors, but i got bored and i will be turboed in the near future.

I'd think that the aerodynamics you lose by raising your hood would be more than the power you'd gain based on the "high pressure" under the hood...an engine compartment is a 3-sided box...its pretty open and vented - I know its hot, but im still having trouble seeing how this is viable

...and how much did you pay for renting a garage?!

I've not only heard of it, but I've seen it done. I used to chill with Saturn tuners, and some of the autocrossers would put 4x washers to life the hood, and cut some (or all) of the weather stripping, then they would rip out the intake piping all the way to the throttle body, then stick a cone filter on the end of the TB, making it like a reverse cowl smothered in cheap sause. It could be done with a pro, but you gotta stick the MAF in there.
                  Thanks for noticing me

My car runs quite hot w/the V6...I tried running for a few days w/out the weatherstripping at the top of the firewall.

I confirmed that "mod" is useless. Did jack **** for cooling. I think you'd have a better time running cooler by doing other things. (Water Wetter, rad shroud, etc.)

Thats what I thought...theres no way that raising the back of your hood lowers the ambient temperature enough to give any noticable performance gain, NA or turbo.

Yeah, it wouldn't make a diff if you're running boosted...that's just funny.

If I kept the 1.8 DOHC I'd get the GTR hood vents...THAT is for cooling.

It all depends on what the **** you do with your car, run it full zing at 5000-7000rpm for 20 minutes (track racing) and you WILL have problems but of course this solution is like the absolute last resort, better cooling mixture, shrouds, additional coolers have much better effect of course.

We have a guy in our DSM club thats done everything possible and hes using that mods (it reslly does help him) as a non-permanent fix before he finishs crafting an inverted scoop in his CF hood.

How much does he have it raised? Because I doubt you will see ANY difference with a 1/4-1/2" more clearance on the backside...now if you have an inch or more, then I could see some reason...

Hey, I did say it was a useless mod at the moment.

I like to the idea that the once cool air that has just been through the intercooler and radiator has somewhere else to go then underneath the car.

I am not claiming any gains nor benefits from this. I did on the other hand record a 5 degree intake temps with this mod on my subaru w/ fmic.

SInce i don't want to spend my money on a gtr hood, this will have to suffice for now.
