    Heading To J/Yard tomorrow-Q??

Got my Sprint springs yesterday, and ordered a set of Zx2 struts today. I read through some threads and am not familiar with the word "perch" as it relates to a car's strut. I am assuming that a perch is the upper support shown in the picture below. Am I correct? From what I've read, I need to scrounge up a pair from a wrecked zx2, '97 or newer? Should I get the whole assembly shown? THanks again.

I modified my Protege pearches to fit. Not hard at all to do. If you go that route, I think all you need would be the bearings if you didn't order them already with the struts.

It's all right here. Yes the ZX2 perches fit the first gen protege, any 97+ escort perches will work for the ZX2 strut conversion. The only difference is the size of the hole that the strut mount bearing fits in. I didn't modify my protege perches, instead I bought this kit so I could just put it together easily.
Bill: you want what is being called the "spring seat" in that diagram.

I bought the set of bearings Prakashmath was selling...but I only need two (I bought all of the ones he had - four in total).

I'd be willing to sell the two I have extra. PM me if you're interested.

As far as the top spring perch, you can modify them like Mazdaracer's how-to. I just bought new ones. They were around $15ea. and mine were quite rusted. Just another option.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, they just got a '92 Lx auto in. Has alloys and s/roof. I asked if they'd sell the whole car, they told me to call back during the work week.

don't forget to take the rubber insulator from the ford struts as the new ZX2 struts don't come with them and the stock front protege struts don't have them.
