    about to buy springs/shocks

well i ran into more christmas surplus money so in addition to buying all my brake parts i'll be getting my springs and shocks. im planning on going with the ford racing zx-2 shocks and lowering springs, but im not sure what springs i want. ive only found a few companies that make 2" drop springs (and thats about where im looking to be) but most are 1.5/1.6" drop. what brand do you guys recommend for cost/quality?

ive owned sprint springs before, and had no trouble with them, but my car is going to be autocrossed regularly (although im not trying to adhere to any class rules, i just want a fast car) and i dont know how they'll hold up if i go with those. ive also owned eibach and intrax, and while i think they'd be good springs, they're over $200 and thats kinda expensive. i tried to order the HP racing springs because they were so cheap ($118) but theyre on national backorder for God knows how long. are the canuck motorsports springs any good? they're pretty cheap as well.

anyways, opinions welcome. everybody chime in.

oh, and can somebody please be kind enough to link the john bleakly ford page for me. . . the old link posted doesnt work anymore.

You want a 2 inch drop that is good AND cheap? And why 2 inches? If you plan on Auto-X as you say you do then you may eventually want the front tiebar, etc. which i barely clear **** on the road sitting at a modest 1.25" or so drop currently!

PS: I have the S/R struts and MX3 H&R springs.

damn, thats kind of crappy you're only 1.25 down and its already a clearance issue. i plan on eventually buying or fabricating any and all kinds of chassis structural stiffeners that i can get my hands on or make. it'll probably get a cage and coilovers (if i can find em) in another two or so years anyways. i want a 2" drop because it looks good.

if your bar is that close to the ground at such a mild drop then it probably wasnt meant for a lowered car, and thats kind of stupid. what size wheels are you running? i have a 92 dx (my other pro) with a 3in drop and im not even close to scraping the ground with anything under my car and thats on 13" wheels. ive had low cars before, and 2" is pretty mild in my book.

yes, i want a 2" drop that is good and cheap. i know its possible. . . ive had suspension techniques springs that were awesome for $99 before. im just not looking to spend over $150 if i can get away with it. over $200 seems a little on the ridiculous side considering theyre just springs and im going to get coilovers later.

The BG chassis car doesn't have shocks, it has struts, 4 McPherson struts.

You're going to have to call John Bleakly to order the struts from them, but here is a link: http://www.johnbleakleyford.com/parts.asp

        Here are some coilovers: http://www.airbagit-store.com/produc...t.asp&ID=97039

The sprint springs are the only springs that are going to get you that low.

Well its not so much that its a clearance issue per say but it can hit stuff in certain circumstances! Here i'll include a pic at the end of my post for you to see how it sits after i had the springs/struts done before the other goodies so you get a rough idea! As far as wheels i'm running the stock EGT 15s.

After the sway bar install. Clearly if for some reason "something" misses the tie bar it may say hello to the sway bar!

I see, so the tie bar is used as armor for the sway bar then, right?

                    You think that's close?......................that's nothing!

My oil pan is half the distance to the ground as your tie bar.

A little more than that, but close.

I'm going back to struts and springs VERY soon. I'm so sick of my welfare coilover sleeves.

ha ha ha welfare coilovers. lol, that is hilarious. ebay fo life!

yeah, thats why 2" is plenty for me. i just didnt think an inch or 1.5 was going to be enough. . . hell, ive got 3 inches of fender well gap with my car like it sits now. . . i just want to eliminate that. i see what you mean about the tie bar. . . that sucks, cause i wanted one. well, i'll probably still get one; ****, at least i'll know what the noise is if i hit something.

But my tiebar does more then your oilpan does that low!
