Difference between 22V-13 and 22V14 Calipers

I was changing my spindles on the 323 due to bearing problems and decided to go with the bigger spindles from the Ford Escorts to fit the "Big" brakes. For those wondering what is the difference between the calipers, i compared them side by side. The piston housings are identical, the difference is the part indicated with the blue arrow.

Basically, if you don't want to swap your calipers but want the big brakes and have the big spindles, get the different half, untighten the two bolts (17 mm) attaching it to the piston housing (red arrows) and swap parts. Preferably, get new bolts even though I used the old ones hoping they are fine.

The ford spindles are available everywhere and are easier to find than pro/323 ones, especially here in canada.

Strange that only the housing is different! Did you measure the piston, etc. PROPERLY?!

no this is true, they are exactly the same. just the outer housing and spindle are different.

I measured everything (not with a ruller) and everything is the same. Anyways, for those who are interested in swapping things, this is some good info

ok, now i got a question. what is the size difference between the two brake systems rotors you are talking about? is this like sohc protege brakes vs dohc protege brakes? i know you said its a 323, but i still dont know all the ins and outs of the interchangability of these with proteges.

Yeah from what i understand the 323s and SOHC proteges have the smaller brakes and the DOHC (LXs) have the larger and 4 wheel disc setup.

dont forget that switching to the LX brakes means you have to have at least 14in wheels. i know there is an aftermarket 13in rim that fits the bigger brake just can't remember which one.

US pro LX and EGT have the bigger brakes, 10.2 inches i believe. DX ans base and all 323 have the small brakes. I don`t know about other Escorts.
In Canada, all pros (except GT) and 323 have the smaller brakes, 9.3 inches while all Escorts have the bigger brakes.

It`s old information but that i couldn`t find anywhere...

i have an mx3 gs and i was given the 13v calipers they bolt on but do not fit correctly over the rotor. had to go back and exchange them. i would think 13v calipers should come on dx's since they came on mx3 rs which is also the 4cyl. i believe protege lx go the 14v as well as escorts and mx3's

                            That is correct.

Anything with rear drum brakes is going to have the smaller front brakes, anything with rear disc brakes is going to have the larger front brakes.

Escorts fronts have the 13Vs with 13" wheels stock or 14Vs with 14" wheels stock (easy to remember, huh?). All 97+ have 14Vs. Typically cheapo trim levels like the Pony & base models had the 13Vs on the 91-96s.

Rears are a little under 9" drums for the 91-96, 9"+ drums for 97+ (same knuckle). Only EGTs, and the rare as chicken lips Escort S/R have rear discs, exact same as Prot LX.
