My advise, go cheap on audio and get everything but the amp used. I paid $150 for my setup used 5 years ago, and it's still going strong. In fact, I get compliments all the time about how nice the sound quality is. It's also worth while in getting a 12 inch sub instead of a 10 inch. Just my 2 cents

I'll have to measure the area I want to put the sub. I think 10" will be fine for sound quality. Not looking to rattle windows on the other side of town, just a nice, balanced system. My string of concerts are over, so I have to make up for it somehow, haha.
Oh! And the new hood scoop arrived today. Thanks again, Bo!!Last edited by irishkev90; 07-24-2014, 09:24 PM.

Planning how to run and mount everything for the new speaker setup. I want to mount the amp below the rear speaker deck, but, of course, the mounting holes in the amp don't match up with anything in the deck. I still have a large sheet of .22" acrylic that I used for the "zoom" tail light in the '98. It's pretty sturdy and I think I can use that to make a sort of mounting bracket. If I use this, I was also thinking of having it light up somehow when the trunk lid is opened using the existing trunk light wiring. The Alpine amp lights up blue when it's on, so I could add blue LEDs to the acrylic to make the edges glow blue. Or I could glue/tape a strip of white LEDs around the front of the acrylic for added light in the trunk (which would be almost useless since I almost never use the trunk at night/in the dark).
I'm just thinking out loud and getting my ideas written in front of me, but any suggestions are welcome.Last edited by irishkev90; 08-10-2014, 03:06 PM.

The previous owner did put new speakers and an amp in, but it's all wired up weird and the way the amp is mounted causes the left speakers to cut out from time to time. After I get this amp situated I have to figure out the sub. I want in that little pocket-like area behind the right tail light. I'm trying to keep everything out of the way in case I need to put anything in the trunk.

Please.... talk to eric. nueman. the man is a genius & can build you a tucked away box wherever in the trunk thats molded to match your panels.

A little more work has been done. Got the amp securely mounted and RCA wires routed from the headunit to the amp. Also replaced the rear speakers with my Alpine Type-R set and Boom Mat for a cleaner look underneath.
I used 0.25" I.D. fuel line hose to make the spacers. I cleaned off the markings with brake parts cleaner to have a nice, clean look to it. I also put 0.25" spacers between the amp and acrylic mounting plate.
I will get some black carpet or something else the place under the rear deck to hide the wires. The amp is not currently hooked up to power and the speakers are still using the old amp and wiring. Speaking of...
There's nothing holding the bottom of that amp in place. It swings back and forth and smacks against the interior panel on turns and bumps causing half the speakers to lose power temporarily. Also...
Who the hell solders their speaker connections? And where was this talent for the wiring of the horn, fog lights, vacuum/battery gauge lights, and any other important connection?
I'll be using the '98 for a while until this project is complete (minus the sub).

IDK about your car, but on my escort when I ran wires into my driver door for my keyless entry, I pulled the boot back to expose the connector in the door jamb on the body and found a spot in the plastic large enough to accommodate the two wires I had to run and drilled holes on the connector to slip the wires through and then found a piece of safety wire and bent the end over so it wont catch on anything and fished it through from the door through the rubber boot till it popped out the other side and tied the wires to it and pulled them back through. Its a pain, but its better than taking the door off and trying to re-align it by yourself.92 Mazda MX3 GS> For sale, $1750 OBO
