help: problem with f-series tranny

So we got the f-series tranny for my friend's car. We got it for pretty cheap, like 60 bux. Anyway, We got it installed and everything. But now we're having troubles, I hope someone has ideas on what to do.

The gears work fine, except for the reverse. and on top of that, the reverse light engages when the car is put in the 5th gear.

Did we do something wrong? or could be that the tranny is messed up? Is there anything to fix that?
