Gearbox Stuck

Car got stuck in 5th gear when driving on the motorway, could only go from 5th to reverse... had to drive over 30miles in 5th. What would have caused this anyone know? Car has over 100k miles. A reckon its going to need new gearbox and clutch as its still on the original ones. Any other mazda gearboxs fit, any beter clutches also?

Right now, when you start the car with the gear in first does the car stall or run?

If it keeps running what is bad is the clutch.

transmissions dont usually go out with no warning but clutches can.

No it physically wouldnt go into 1st! only 5th and reverse! but cheers guys all fixed now. installed another engine and clutch and quickshifter! goin great again. will take apart the old gearbox soon to investigate!
