I hope my question isn't too stupid......
I have a 00 Protege ES with the 1.8 I've been reading several engine swaps using the V-6 out of a Probe GT/ Mazda MX-6. From what I have read & understand the third gen is the best car to do with this because of the room in the engine bay. Not sure if that is true or not. I was looking to bulid my 1.8 NA & see how much I can get out of it. I know in theory how turbos work but I wish to stay away from them for my own reasons. I am not looking to race my car but I do enjoy some VERY spirted driving on backroads. I like the idea of a V-6 having more Tq then my 1.8. I do understand I would be better off finding a doner car & pulling what I need off of it. My question is would I be better of buliding my 1.8 to whatever I can get out of it? Or swapping a V-6 into considering what I want to use it for? I know either way I'm going to spend some money.. the question is which should the money go for? I am also going to assume that the 5 speed in the Probe/Mazda will fit my 00.
Thanks!Last edited by norwood1026; 05-02-2010, 12:39 PM.Got Zoom?

The V6 swap will be more expensive and time consuming, and will require some custom fabbing to make it all work. Plus, you'll have a heavy V6 in the nose, which will hinder your handling (somewhat; I'm sure the right suspension upgrades would mostly cancel it out...that said, how much better would it be without the extra weight?). Personally, I'd build what you have. Cheaper, less work, no worries about the donor engine you just pulled from wherever...but ultimately the choice is yours. At least two people will tell you to do the swap, I'm sure. My opinion, though, is build the engine you have now. Question, though: why no turbo? It sounds like the easiest solution to reach your goals.1995 626: daily beater, mostly stock. Future NASA racer?
Next up: Speed6 or RX-8

First my apologize hijacking original poster of this topic.
I just don't want to start another post since this post similar to mine. Here come the question. I just purchase a KLDE from 95 626.
The good is: it come with MT trans and lower sub frame and drive axle / brakes ( just complete front end minus the cover - you would say)
The bad : I don't know if i can swap the whole thing ( sub frame / trans / drive axle / brake ) into my 91 323 hatch.
I know I can ditch all thing and keep only the engine and reuse the old gear box ( 323 gear box) and get less headache , but it will be a waste.
Thanks , and my apologize again for being a first time poster in here, if anything inappropriate, please let me know.

yes we have the kl engine in the bj famila's here...but will the standard g-series gearbox from a bg mazda work back? most of the kl's here are auto.
