    Cheap performance?

Hey guys, was wonderin if there were any relatively cheap upgrades to improve performance. Its an LX 1.5L (<-engine abbreviation?) dohc. totally stock at the moment. i dont want to turbo it, not yet anyway, and im lookin for somethin i can do at home thats maybe a couple hundred $ at most. i havnt done anything with an engine before so somethin pretty straightforward for starters would be nice.

need any more info let me kno

No. A few hundred won't even get you 5 extra hp. Sorry. Save your money and boost it or do a 1.8 dohc swap.

      Problem: CHEAP PERFORMANCE
      Solution: NEW CAR

A 1.5L lx pro dont really have performance parts... either do the 1.8L swap as turpro stated or turbo it.... or you could just save up some cash, sell your car, and buy something else

Please don't fall for the 25+ or 50+ hp performance chips on ebay or the cold air or ram intakes either... you'd be wasting your money and time

if u struggle to use the websites search function; to see the millions of threads on it.. you'll definately have a hard time doing a motor swap.. and manual conversion

I got the same treatment asking pretty much the same question(s).. LoL.

BTW, whats so special about the 1.8 DOHC? I have it in my 96 and its nothing to even consider swapping out for.

It would be if you had the z5
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

For the Z5, add a cold air intake, low temp thermostat, NGK IRIDIUMS, gut the cats(CHECK WITH LOCAL LAWS) add 2 o2 sensor simulators, run 2 1/4 all the way back, get a stage 1 or 2 clutch, there is a 3 and 4 stage but i dont know much about it. Made by ZOOM. If its still around. Exhaust can. Throw in a short throw shifter, or cut yours in half if you dont want to pay the money. Run Seafoam in your engine on often and you might see some power. thats what i did and i can smoke a civic. I also run 91 or 93 (91 can be bought at SUNOCO) i have pics of my intake but the pic is too big to post so if interested i will email it. i have a breather sticking out of my intake right at the throttle body and for some reason it sounds like it has a blow off valve. Its awesome. With this setup your mainly long run with high RPMS, Its not blast off the line. I ran a 10.5 at 100mph in an 1/8th and thats with gutted interior, or spare tire just me driving i weigh 190. Thats no bull i know this motor is helpless, but im telling you this might help, on some of the long going Z5 slag, other than that without machine shop this is it. I have this installed on my 98 LX protege. IF im doubted on this setup I live in MT.WASHINGTON, KY and i will roll this beast out of the drive way and give proof to my setup! EMAILS WANTED!!!!
