REALLY NEED HELP...thinking of modding my 2002 Protege

I just got a 2002 Protege and simply put I'd like to modify it. I've got a friend who's really good with modding cars and he's willing to help me a bit, because I really don't know much about it. What should I get to make my Protege faster and more efficient? I want this baby to be able to fly at times. Can anyone help me?

    Thanks

intake, headers, and exhaust are probably what you would like.

cheap route: ebay intake, obx header, universal muffler with custom piping.

higher priced: injen intake, awr header, any of the nice catback systems.

Damn, no it's an automatic...any ideas are greatly appreciated. Anyone know if RS Race Series Intake Systems are any good?

Personally, I would wait until your warranty is out before doing anything extensive.
It's just one more excuse Mazda may try to use and weasel out of the responsibility.

Realistic expectations should be set...an i/h/e isn't going to transorm the car, just improve it a little. And it gets expensive for that small improvement.
Maybe by the time the warranty is out, you'll have decided to ditch the auto.
