    cold Air intake

I'm interested in getting an cold air intake, but i have no idea where to begin. I seen a few on ebay for some reasonable prices but not sure what good and whats not. Can anyone offer me some directions in what to look for and what not to look for. And also what are the benefits of installing cold air intake on 1.8L Dx any at all.

a CAI will not offer much in the gains department. at most 2-3 hp. you have to be very careful when installing a CAI due to the fact that the filter goes down into the wheel well area and can suck up water when going through big puddles. for this reason, i decided to install a short ram intake instead. I figured the HP gains were not enough reason to go with the CAI and instead went with the SRI. you still get the great sound of the CAI, without the danger.

i have a Injen Cold air for my 1.6l and i've never had trouble with it dealing with water. I live in Oregon where it rains all the time. Now i barely noticed a increase in power but i don't think it was a whole lot from the cold air and short ram. so if it's like a 100 dollar diffrence then go with the short ram.

In this department I don't think that brand is important. Its a pipe with filter on the end. Although, you do want a quality filter. I would just buy the cheapest one you see and cramp a high quality air cleaner on the end of your cheap pipe.

I'm happy because Dima speeds, which makes him happy. He seems to be happy only when speeding, which makes me happy. And when I'm happy people around me are able to live another day. If you are alive right now, you should thank Dima.

yeah pretty much what he said. go down to your local plumbing store and buy some piping and hookup a k&n filter and your set.

now the 1.6ers are screwed here becuase of that weird ass MAF, ohwell.

tviera, said it a good filter is probably the way to go. piping to me is just piping. also k&n makes a filter cover that keeps water out, but if it were to be submerged in the water than you'd be fu@#ed, its more or less for splash from the puddles. it still lets it breath, but just a little help with the water

never had mine break yet. weird thing is, is that they continued to use that design of MAF in the newer Mazda3's. wonder why?

Not a bad looking kit. And it is of pretty good quality. Grab it, put it on, and say hello to your new baby elephant.

I got an AEM SRI on my 03 ES.
it is great sounding and great performing. Kicks in right away, you will feel it.
I stole it for $130. just look around on the net, there are plenty of places to search.
the 1 I got retails for $220. You don't want to buy something and see it alot cheaper later on. Happy hunting!
