I think it would work, they both have the 2.0 motor. The only thing I'm not sure of is if the mounting points are different between the manual and automatic cars2003.5 Titanium Gray MSP #950

They are both the same with regards tho the mounting. Protege5s have a VTCS and VICS system in the intake manifold. I'm not sure if the 01's had the VTCS. Do you have a picture of your stock manifold. I could tell you then.
