5 speed upgrade follow up question.

A good while back I posted a question about upgrading my tranny with something that would lower the RPMS on the highway. I was told I could use an a tranny from a 626/mx6.

    1. Does it have to be the same year as my car?
    2. I'm guessing that the tranny has to be from a 4 banger 626/mx6.
    3. Looking back over my original post it's not the tranny I need only the gearset correct?

    Thanks in advance as always.
    Got Zoom?

If your 5-speed transmission is a G-series, then you can get the fifth gear (both large and small gears) from a 626/MX-6. It will lower the rpms slightly compared the the stock Protege gears.

      How do I know if it's a G-series?

Not exactly sure. Other members would know better than me. I have no idea what to look for. Sorry.

you specifically want them from a 93-97 4 cyl 626. which only came with a G series trans. or you could also use the ones from a 88-92 2.2 na probe/mx6/626.

            F25M-R transmission used in 1.6 L ZM-DE and 1.8 L FP-DE engines.

            G15M-R transmission used in 2.0 L FS-DE engine.

You (2000 Protege ES) have the F-series transmission.
