      ^ I second that.
Nitrous is also a good bang for the buck. The 1.6L can handle it. The important part is TUNNING.
For the exhaust, I suggest the Corksport. Sounds and performs good.

I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

unfortunately, I still got the stocker
But if I get some $ I'll put this one w a header.
Or if I get even more, ($2600) I'll put a turbo system instead. The 1.6L loves boost.

                Step 1: Sell Protege
Step 2: Buy a car that responds more readily to modification.

If you're looking to improve power by a considerable amount, it isn't going to be accomplished with bolt-ons. Believe me, I threw nearly every bolt-on imaginable at mine with minimal gains. A turbo would likely be your best bet as far as adding power, otherwise you're just making the thing louder.
