you'll be glad when you delete those stupid butterflies @ the port entrance. be sure to put washers & longer screws into the main butterflies along with locktite. the factory butterflies are made with such cheap thin steel they rattle right off the screws themselves - so if you don't lose the screws... the butterflies can still fall out (fail mazda... fail)

I'm a technician at Mazda so I've heard all about the VICS and VTCS problems ha-ha so that's already done, new locktite and re-install. Luckily none of mine were loose, as it looked like the TSB repair had already been performed. No damage to the holes on the butterflies either.

I think i need to replace my escort wagon with a P5
I wonder how hard it would be to convert a P5 to 4x100 since, well, ALL of my wheels are 4x100...Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI

Check to see the bolt pattern and hub dims on the DX Proteges... I don't know how different the knuckles would be though...
The other Mazda forum has a post going from 4 to 5 and one guy said that you'd need different spindles, knuckles, and I think brakes too. I wonder if another manufacturer had a similar dimension hub that will fit right in?
By wagon, you mean an actual wagon and not that awesome hatch in your sig? Lol. We have an EGT too, but we race in a different medium than youLast edited by KingOfSpades007; 01-27-2016, 11:10 AM.I need a brain.

I wonder if i could somehow use EGT rear spindles and DX BJ front spindles? Even with that setup i think it would be a brake downgrade all around though... Might just suck it up and acquire even MOAR WHEELZ. At least wheels for a P5 will also fit my fiance's hyundai??
KingOfSpades i have a 99 escort wagon for a daily driver. Going to look at a P5 this weekend, the same color as yours!Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI

Looks like the front wheel bearings are exactly the same (and also the same as the BG), so that should work! There is a 10" 4x100 BJ front rotor out there, identical in dimension to the 5 lug rotor other than overall thickness (it is 0.066" thinner). Depending on where that difference is made up, this may be a direct bolt-up.
Sadly the rear will not be so easy as the bearing/hub assembly has a different (smaller) ID for the 4 lug one
hmmmm i might be able to make a miata front hub work on the rear, with a spacer.....Last edited by therieldeal; 01-28-2016, 03:23 PM.Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI

What about a BG? 4WD Protegé knuckle? Not sure how much different though. Or how rare they might be.
Just spitballing here... Lol

over the weeks, took off the imitation DaveB gauge rings, and replaced the LED bulbs in the gauge cluster with the stock incandescent bulbs. yesterday i reinstalled the factory radio.
i didnt think i'd get me emotional...i've had this car for 12 years and i was hoping to get to at least 200,000 miles. nothing is majorly wrong, but i'm at a point where the cost of repairing stuff like all the scary suspension clunks and wobbles, oil burning, and other engine issues...would outweigh the actual value of the car.
still have cruise control and oem steering wheel to reinstall. remove kartboy shifter and i have to find an OEM shifter. and have to replace the broken rear door lock actuator.

After getting a trashing from a Mazda 2 Sport in the twisties. That was when I found that the rear coilovers wasn't functioning properly as I thought. On the straights I was king as i able to catch up, pass & pull away @ will. In the corners I had to back off the throttle as the car was bouncing all over the place as I try to match pace with the M2 Sport. I replaced the faulty modified BC rear coilovers with a pair of Tokico Illumina shocks & Tein lowering springs. The difference was night and day in ride quality. Thanks goes out to sport2 for bring this to light.
