Brief history:
-105k original miles, I am the 2nd owner. All power components work: windows, heat, horn, wipers . .etc. Around November of 2010 the stock engine was a victim of mild hydro lock. Mild meaning it still started and ran but not 100% due to uneven compression across the cylinders. Decision was made not to rebuild, but a complete BPD engine & drivetrain swap. My intent was to have a 'wolf in sheep's clothing' daily driver.
Engine/Drivetrain:
-1992 Mazda GTR (Engine code BPD not BPT)
-Fidanza 9lb lightened flywheel
-XTD stage 3 six puck sprung clutch (brand new pilot + release bearing)
-Golden eagle oil sandwich adapter (bolted between oil filter and block for Autometer electric oil pressure sending unit)
-Brand spanking new 1991 4wd Protege inner with new GTX outter axles
-Protege 4wd shifter cables with new Corksport shifter bushings
-Corksport stainless steel divorced 2.5" down pipe
-New spark plugs, cap/rotor, thermostat and gaskets throughout engine
*All having ZERO miles on it*
Suspension/Brakes:
-K Sport Kontrol Pro 32 way adjustable coilovers
-Front + rear strut tower bars
-Polyurethane swaybar endlinks + mounting D-shaped bushings
-Escort GT front calipers, Galant VR4 Brembo powerstop slotted rotors. **During this time just made sense to do the inner and outter wheel bearings on all four corners**
Electronics:
-Alex's MegaSquirt Engine Management System
Includes: *Plug & Play jumper harness specifically made to work with GTR engine harness (no splicing or dicing), air flow meter removal, aluminum weld on bung for idle air control 3 bar map sensor (29psi), flat shift/launch control, USB Tuning Cable and allllll necessary software to tune to your hearts content*
-Autometer Sport Comp boost and oil pressure guages (hence the golden eagle adaptor mentioned above)
-HKS turbo timer
*Again all having ZERO miles on it*
Exterior: 9 out of 10
-Euro black housing headlight + corners
-OEM Japanese FAMILIA, fulltime 4wd and 16v DOHC turbo badges
-All panels and moldings are there
Interior: 9.5 out of 10
-OMP Rally steering wheel
-MOMO functioning horn button
Bottom Line:
-The new motor/drivetrain and engine harness are installed, will need minor wiring. Car will come with two boxes of spare parts for both GTR and factory GTX engines (GTX and GTR slave cylinders, gaskets, flanges etc), and a COMPLETE B6T long block with uncut engine harness. Will need to be towed by potential new buyer
-As expected with a 20+ year old car, there are few scuffs and scratches. Verrrrrry few surface rust spots on sunroof corners and lower side skirts
-A few pictures below are right before swap began, and as follows current pics of what car presently looks like . . so radiator, intercooler + piping and other misc engine bay items were temporarily removed as with any engine transplant.
Different life situations have come up where I am forced to "pull-the-plug" sorta speak on my project. But as you have read . .countless hours of thought, labor and the aforementioned upgrade/performance parts make it very difficult to put a price tag on this.
From the pain in the a*s wheel bearings, to new rotors . . to a Genuine GTR engine . . I am very aware its still an incomplete project. Considering all thats
done and the very little left, the new owner will have a very clean and reliable GTX with BALLS.
