from my experience, my GTR head is no smoother than any of my ford heads. so either i have a rough GTR head, or smooth ford heads. or, its all a crapshoot as we said above.

plus like i said... how much does it matter that the casting is smooth? it doesnt.

Yes I was referring to the casting. I failed to mention it since there was talk about the casting.

I agree it could be a crapshoot on a small numbers level. But the gentleman that I was speaking with rebuilt many a BP (when I say rebuilt it was for performance, this involved hand porting and polishing and such) and he reported that the Ford heads generally required a bit more work. This was after building a number of motors over a number of years.

Personally, if I were buying a motor I would be willing to pay a slight premium for a Mazda BP due to the casting theory as well as the MBSP. I can understand not everyone would care as much about this though.

      Enjoy!

Hey man, I agree with you completely - you gotta pay to play.

I personally never seem to have an issue buying BP's - both when I need one and when I don't. But then again, I know quite a few people in the industry and they all keep an eye out for me.

            Enjoy!

Protege BP's are a dime a dozen here.

I'll pay someone to take the one in my garage.
