    Help Buying Head Bolts

    Okay guys, I need a favour

    I cannot find BP head bolts anywhere in Canada. Its rediculous. Mazda has them, and even with the employee discount, its $110 CAD.

    I'm hoping someone could call/browse around their local autoparts stores and see if anyone carries some BP head bolts. I'm sure you all know which models the come on, but if its important, I have a 91 tracer lts motor.

    The bolt should be 135mm overall. 12 point head, 10 bolts in total....

    I would paypal you the money to purchase them, and the money to ship them up to me. I looked on USPS.com, and its looks to be around $15 US.

    Oh, and yes I know about the ARP miata studs, but I don't want to dump $150 into studs. I am NOT taking this head off again.

    That's what they cost, brosephine.

    If you're not willing to go with ARP, you might as well suck it up and buy factory stuff.

      Well, I found a set that was VERY close here for $30. Only 3/8" too short. They were mislabeled, mistaken for BP bolts. They must be out there. Every other car has them.

          That I do not know off hand. I don't have a good caliper to guesstimate either.

          Using a rubber ruler and my knowledge of threads: M5 (M10 actually, I'm just handicapped today)

          1/2 pitch



          But I don't want that much uncertainty.

            i think they are M12 bolts iirc. pricing out plain high grade studs on mcmaster carr's website proves that ARP studs are a perfectly reasonable deal.

              It's an M11x1.5...impossibile to find at any hardware store/site.

                I don't want ARP. I don't want high performance. I want bottom of the line. I want to fasten my head to my block. I know someone made these bolts, I know they sold them to Mazda, Ford, Mercury, and Kia. Some pingpong company in China or Japan made them, and they must be sold elsewhere. You can buy headbolts for mostly every model of mostly every make. There is no reason why ONLY the dealership would have them. As long as there is a market, there is capitalism, and where there is capitalism, there is competition... I am very doubtful no other company has made bolts for this motor.

                All I want is people to ask their favourite parts guy next time they swing through an autoparts store. Thats all I want.

                I know I can get ARP, I know I can get stealership. I also know autoparts stores sell head bolts.

                M11 and M12 are close, but I measure M10...

                      go to the junkyard and start pulling head bolts out of god knows what. label them... bring them home, and try them. from a quick search lots of things use m11 for head bolts. thats all i got.

                          Then just re-use your current bolts. They are not the tty (torque to yield) kind and a lot of people have had no trouble re-using them.
