WTB: valve shims

I need to do a valve adjustment on my 98 626 with the KLG4 and mazda wants $14 each for the shims. Thats going to get rather expensive if you multiply it by 24 valves. Anyone have any or maybe from another engine with solid lifters that will fit?

afaik the shims and solid lifters from the 01 + miata will work, i believe someone here used the klg4 solid lifters/shims in a BP build.

there's a klg4 local here, but its complete so it would take a long time to get at everything lol

thanks for the info If that is the case then I can measure the diameter of the shims and see if they are the same size as a BP one for sure. Anybody have any BP ones they can measure for me? Oh and it turns out after shuffling them around I will only need 16 of them.

Ok the diameter of the shims are 26.92mm.

the thickness I need are as follows:

1 x .125"
3 x .126"
5 x .128"
6 x .129"
1 x .131"

Dont ask me why I measured the diameter in metric and the thickness in inches. I think i pushed the metric/std button on my caliper in between somewhere

even if the shims for my Toyota 4AGE fit, I don't have anything near that thickness. the thickest one I needed to use was a .124, and that was right at the thick side of what was available. Most of mine were in the .116 area.

Good luck, nobody wants to get rid of the shims they've collected, because they'll need them when they adjust their valves next time. I ended up buying a few brand new, but that let me set every single valve exactly where I wanted it, not just within the range, which makes for a more efficient air pump in the end...

I am afraid your right, i may just have to suck it up and buy some from the dealer. If I was keeping the car I would be more worried about exact, but i am selling it, so as long as its within spec its better then where its at, which is way out. A couple of them are close to .010" off

just a thought, maybe call around to some machine shops/dealers? I talked to a guy at a toyota dealership, and they had sort of a shim exchange system, where they had a bunch of shims, new and used, and when they'd adjust someone, they'd keep their old ones, and put the correct fitting ones in the motor....

have you tried ebay at all? they may not have OEM Mazda shims, but something that fits your specs...? worth a shot

edit: seems napa use to carry them, last post i saw from 2010 said they were out of stock, might want to give them a call?

I have searched ebay many times for mazda ones, but never for any others. most people dont list specs on them so I didnt bother with the others.

Never thought of napa, I will look into it
