No offence but for that price i might as well just go with the toyota trans. I have the st205 tranny already. I only spent $125 on it

You best start adding up the other costs- plate, clutch, shafts, rear end, fab work, more fab work, yet still more fab work, etc etc etc, *then* decide.
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

Lol i love this forum. I can source parts from a few junk yards in the area. And i have plenty of fab experience and both mig and tig welders in the garage to complete the project, but back to parts. many people dont relize but you dont need to spend a ton of money to get the swap done. As a self priclaimed toyota expert i have come to find that toyota camry alltracs are basically st185 celicas with locking center diffs like that of the st165 celica and open rear differentials. I have one locally i can snag the diff and axles and drive shaft from for dirt cheap. Quoted $400 for the whole car. I have the 205 trans already and i would be able to use lexus es250 passenger side axles for the front axle. The only difference between them and the gt4 axle are a small dust cover in the outer cvs. For $500 ill have almost everything i need minus plate mounts and clutch.

My point was if i was going to pay that much for a transmission i would just spent the extra on doing the toyota swap.

Yah well I thought it was gonna be cheap before I started, too. Granted, since it's a rallycar, it got more spendy more quickly. It may be that street suspension doesn't have as much droop, so maybe you won't break the front inner CV's in a few miles. And you might not care about having an open center and rear diff but I prettymuch had to have the lsd versions, and I had to pay someone else to build the gearbox with the st205 short final drive with the st185 RC closeratio gearset (and the camry/st165 items are not worth the effort of installing em, weak synchros along with that open centerdiff among other things. Triplecone synchros ftw). But even at that, there was so much more work involved even just in bolting the trans to the engine than I ever planned or thought of, that to do this thing right, instead of just borrowing my pals' shop and tools and lift, I ended up leaning on the guy so much for the fab work that was beyond me that I ended up throwing great wads of cash at him as well, outta guilt. I mean come on... the other build threads I found all say you just have to take a little off the edge of the pan (after you cut the big section out and weld the recessed section in) to get the xfer to clear the sump. but oooooh no, we had to take a whole bunch off both the pan and the xfer case and do this very very carefully, spending hours and hours till we were able to bolt it all together and still get a hacksaw blade tween the two parts. There were so many other surprises like that, some of which I'm still effing dealing with , like say frinstance it looks like my adapterplate located the startermotor in not quite the right location, that even though I really wanna do this to my street car, I ain't gonna. I still cringe, going through my build thread, at the pain and suffering.

But hey if you have a lift and expert fabrication skills then by all means go for it. But just use the toyota motor too. I couldn't, rally rules said so. But that alone would save a helluva lotta effort. No plate, either.

It seems it would be alot less work to use a yota motor but the block it to wide and in order to fit it properly you would need to take most of the frame rail out. As far as the rear goes i simple rav4 factory lsd will work. Trust me before i started building mazdas i built tons of toyota cars from mr2s to supras even a geo prism. I know what it takes to build a reliably fast toyota. Alot of people mistake my post count for ignorance, im definitly not a noob. 36 cars since i was 16 none crashed and i just turned 25 in march. Heres my camaro i just sold last year.
