    GTX Swap temp gauge problem

So i know that due to different voltages or resistances or whatever that a gtx coolant temp sensor will only give you essentially half a temp gauge in an escort. To solve this i followed the logical progression and put the sensor from my 94 gt parts car in it. Still only have half a temp gauge (by this i mean that at operating temp the gauge sits at the N of Normal on the gauge.

Can anyone venture a guess as to what the problem is?

    EDIT:

just realized i posted in forced induction rather than swaps. Time for some Mod help?

My first port of call would be checking my earths, the sender unit for the gauge works on resistance to earth, so if it has a poor earth its not going to send an accurate signal to the cluster.

Put a multimeter between the alloy that the sender screws into and a body earth and report back! You should have very little to no resistance between those two

i did the same GTX-->EGT swap and my temp gauge worked fine without swaping sensors and keeping the stock, old GTX one. I would go through the harness in the engine bay again, there are several grounds that need to be attached to certian points. Make sure they are all in the right spots and attached

I'm using whatever the stock gtx thermostat is. I know the sensor is fine because it worked in my parts car. Its a good condition stock wiring harness from the same parts car and my grounds are good. Tis why i dont understand why its not working. I would just install an aftermarket gauge, but i don't feel like drilling and tapping the head or thermostat housing.

u dont need to, get the AEM water temp gauge, take out the stock sensor and put the AEM one in the same spot. Now instead of trusting the inaccurate, stock gauge u read a digital display

are the threads the same? cuz i have a couple autometers here out of various hotrods and not only are is the thread pitch way off, but the probe is about 2 inches to long.

Did you use the right sensor? There are at least 2 of them I think, one for the gauge, and one for the Fan relay or ECU. Maybe there's three, I just can't remember which one is for the gauge, I'm feeling a bit muddleheaded right now. I think the one for the gauge is on the head, a single spade connector, facing forward.

the gauge one is on the drivers side bottom of the head facing front, the single wire plug.

yeah...i used the right sensor. Not my first rodeo....just cant figure out why its not reading right. i havent had a chance to get a multimeter on it yet. any idea what the standard voltages this thing reads on are?

Anyone? Would just really like to know what my temps in this thing are seeing as i'm pushing the gauge from the "N" in normal to about the "R" or "M" in sustained boost. Granted it cools right down when i get off the throttle for a couple secs, but still troubeling

Side note, how much hotter do these usually get during a couple 1-4 pulls?
