    MS is installed and idles but dies when throttle is applied..

    1995 EGT, MS2 PNP by Lex, BP-T with vj20/ishi hybrid, 440cc rx8 injectors, vaf delete, innovate MTX-L wideband.



    Okay so as the title states the cars idles okay, is choppy an missing at times, but idles okay for all intents and purposes and does so between 13-15:1 once warmed up cylinder missing goes away.

    Once the throttle is cracked, and I mean even the slightest opening of the throttle plate, the afr's go to 22.4:1 and engine dies.

    Any thoughts? Does this sounds like the ecu isn't seeing the TPS? I will double check where my TPS wire is at the harness later but I'm pretty sure it is in 2L.

        Also check DIYautotune for an article about getting your idle right. Setting up cold start and cranking enrichment will take some time. Take it a step at a time or else you will get overwhelmed like I did.

          Okay, I am overwhelmed.

          It WAS cranking and then idling semi fine. Now it won't start and I have an error code. It says I have a TACHO setting error. It tells me that I need to adjust my settings and then powercycle the unit. I am so frustrated.

          I have the wideband 02 installed properly now. I hadn't run the reference wire, yellow 0-5v wideband, to the MS yet earlier. I have it installed properly now and the jumper was already on 2 for the EXT 02 since Lex knew I would be running the wideband, so before, when it was idling, it must not have been getting any information for AFR data. I wasn't driving it at all it was just idling so I cant imagine I hurt anything. I was under the assumption that it would be set up for the narrowband signal from the factory 02 sensor until I myself went in and changed it and the jumper to signify that the wideband was to be the main source for AFR data.

          So now the tuner studio says it isn't ready in RED in the lower right hand corner and all the engine does is crank, but now it wont even start and idle. Before, it would at least idle and when I gave it gas it would go ultimately lean and die. Now I assume I know why it did that.

          So now that there is this new TACHO error, what am I to do? Should I start from scratch and download the basemap again to see if it was something I accidentally configured wrong? I didn't even go into TACHO settings and mess with anything. The only thing I was trying to get right was the AFR's and I hadn't burned anything to the map unless the PDF manual for the MS2 told me to do so, like with the innovate calibrations for the wideband.

            Lex emailed me back. I should probably reflash the MS with the basemap again since for some reason what was on the ecu may have gotten corrupted. It cant hurt since I have really done anything worth saving to this ecu. I'll try it and see what happens.

            In the manual it says that for Ford cars sporting the B series mazda engine with the VAF deleted need to use a jumper wire to connect two pins in the VAF connector.. My fuel pump was running fine and the car was idling..do I need do this or is it safe to assume my fuel pump is working just fine?

                jump the wires in the vaf plug. it shouldn't even have had the fuel pump on unless you have the vaf still plugged in or you did something else to make the fuel pump to come on with the key on.

                  At this point I don't know. I bought this car used before I did my original swap. Maybe someone before me did something to key on power to the fuel pump and bypass the cut off switch?

                    Jumper is installed in vaf connector and fuel pump can be heard whirring in tank with key on. I'll try reflashing the ecu with the base map asap.

                      Come to think of it, I had the old ecu in when I installed the new rx8 injectors. I remember priming the system with the key on before I removed my old vaf and ecu and sold them.. Maybe there was enough pressure in the line to let the car idle a bit and then it finally just ran out. I cant explain the TACHO error code but that might explain why the car was able to idle and putt around the shop but I couldn't touch the gas otherwise it would lean out 22.4:1 and die.. ? Idk. I'll figure it out soon.

                        When I flash the base map from stratified website onto the MS do I need to delete my project from the tuner studio and start over from scratch? I will if I have to I just want to start from scratch. I don't need to reload the firmware onto the ecu to do that correct?

                          We'll my car would start and idle for a split second before dying without the VAF jumper plugged in, So make sure that is plugged in. Unless Lex told you to flash the firmware leave it alone. I would start a new project to start over, there may be something in the settings for the old project that is incorrect.

                            Okay I think I have a firmware problem because I tried to open a new project and it said something about firmware conflict TACHO output error and the new project did the same thing as the previous one.

                            I tried to save the base map from stratified website but the file type is not the same and my computer wont find the base map when I try to reflash it to the MS unit...

                            Is my computer's security system keeping me from saving the basemap correctly as a msq file?? It only shows two options for file type, MAN file or All file...

                            Any help would be appreciated at this point. I just need to start from scratch and I may need to redo the firmware and then burn the base map on again.

                              Make sure tuner studio is running as admin ! Tacho error could be the disty plug Mine was broken wire inside the insulation right at the plug so it looked ok but was spotty those. 4 wires seem to get a lot of abuse
