    GTX Wastegate Solenoid Valve

    Hi everyone,

    My question is the following:

The GTX comes with an ECU-actuated Wastgate Solenoid that basically bleeds up boost from the wastegate to promote higher boost pressure and quicker spoolup. This solenoid and the actuator are located on the air meter housing on the GTX. It can be seen in the following link on the right of the image:

I did not get this wastegate solenoid valve with my swap. I am going to run the GT ECU for now. Is this valve needed? Is there a workaround? Is the car going to run without it?

    Thank you in advance.

yes, you'll be fine without it. I don't have it.

Me either. I run 12.3 psi at 3200rpm no problem
Too bad I have AWD and you don't!

in my 91 escort gt i do not run one ether and its fine.

On a nother note you could probably pick one up from a 1st gen mazda mx-6 turbo or maybe a 323 gtx also.

the only reason i say that is because when i did my gtx swap ecu, harness and motor. i call Corksport and ask them about getting me a Knock Sensor for a GTX (1.8) i order one and when i got it is was the same as one that was on a 88 mazda mx-6 i was parting out at the time (SAME PART NUMBER ALSO).

i got the knock control cause Derrick a Corksport told me my car would run in a limp mode (about 20 HPZ lets) with out the knock control hooked up. i didn't finish the swap before i recived the Knock sensor so i don't no if the hole 20 HP less is true but the knock sensor makes it safer.

so maybe a mx-6 turbo or 323 gtx turbo boost solinoid will work if you really want one, i don't have the mx-6 turbo anymore and for got to check it out to see if it would atleast plug in.

        thanks ryan

Thanks for the info guys. Since I am running the GT ECU for now, I won't worry about it since my ECU does not support the wastegate solenoid valve anyways.

However, I wonder how much of a loss in spool speed we get from not having it on there. It obviously serves a purpose if it's included on the car.

i have a front mount IC 2 1/4 IC pipes all hard pipes, and 2 1/2 exhust and the vj-20 spools super fast full boost at 2.5 k from what i remember , So i don't think you will have a problem. i havent driven it since fall. it snow in WI.
            thanks ryan

ryan, with your exhaust setup, do you get a lot of boost creep? If so, how much boost are you running?

Everyone, thanks for the replies, it was very helpful!
