LOOK at this.. fins on turbo chipped

Okay so can I safely continue to drive around with this turbo? ..For all I know it's been like this for the past 15k miles..

What does it appear happened to the fins? I wouldn't imagine anything foreign could get past the cone filter..so obviously something did and it was tough enough to cause this. The shaft play on the turbo feels VERY minimal..so does this mean I can continue to run it until that day comes and it seizes? Will it eventually go out of balance and break beyond repair? Do I have to send it off to be rebuilt or can I hunt down a vj-11 center section and produce the same 10psi? If I were to install a center section from a vj-11 would I have to get it balanced?? So many questions...sorry. Anyone know of a reputable turbo rebuilder? haha

You know I know you are right...I just don't want to mentally admit it. I've discovered so much I have to fix on this heap in the past week that it disgusts me. I don't even want to look at the car right now I'm so stressed about all this I had no clue about. I thought I was driving a very functional car around..quite the contrary.

Looks like someone drove around with a filter. If it's not touching the housing you can still drive around like that but the efficiency suffers.

Vj11 center will work fine. Its pretty much a USDM vj20. I sold a center section to bcowie and he bolted all his vj20 stuff to it and it works perfect

I dunno, I drove open turbo on my GT for three or four months and never damaged the fins on the compressor wheel...

Definitely looks as though something got in there besides just dirt. I've seen compressor wheels get gnarled up from being run open without a filter, but never that bad... A stone maybe?

If you dont have a replacement..... file the edges of the fins in a knife edge fashion
