    Hi!

John here with his 2002 Protege. White, 150K, 5 speed manual.

It's been in need of some repairs and figured I'd use the forum to find the tried-and-true methods of the more complex jobs.
    Great to be here!!
    John

So far my repairs list includes:
        • Repairs
        • Rear Brake line- yes the little steal one that connects to the wheel cylinder
        • Motor mounts-bad for a long time the way they looked
        • Rear struts replaced-junkyard specials but far better than the ones on it
        • Cleaned the windshield- way harder than I remember
        • Replaced tail lights- sold them on fleabay and got my first negative rating...
        • Sparkplugs-went wiht the recommended for the forums here.
        • Going to do the timing belt-waiting for it to cool down some.
        • Scrubbed the headlights-all clear now
        • Working thru the leaks and other miniscule things

do yourself a favor & pull off the intake manifold. open it up and inspect the butterfly systems. they are notorious for having too short of screws- that aren't loctite'd in place & fall out into the motor(bad news)

the butterflies right at the entrance to the head can simply be removed with zero consequences(dumb design)

2nd largest thing you can do to save the car is pull the fender liners off & grind/drill open the cowel drain vents (mazdas biggest engineering flaw with these cars)
