    Crank Pulley ?

We all know about the infamous small nose crank problem.

I noticed that my crank pulley does wobble a bit. Got me a little worried so I did some research online and found this site
    http://www.miata.net/garage/crankshaft.html

According to this site a 4 slot pulley is a small nose, 8 slot is a large nose.
Well my GTX has a 8 slot pulley, I think it has a small flanged bolt though.
Will a 8 slot pulley fit on a small nose crank?

this was a problem on all the 1.6 gtx and gt engines, mine had bad wobble when i pulled it out. i have heard of people taking the pully off and replacing the woodruff key with a new one and a new pully to temorary get rid of the problem

So there are no differences between the 3 and 8 slot pulleys, except the slots?

no you cant use it as a reference point unless you have a miata. the belt system is different so the pulleys are as well.

all that matters is the bolt and crank nose. all gtx's were small nose... so if its wobbling dont ignore it.

I'll reiterate that the pulley slot only applies to the Miata. I have an 8 slot pulley on a small nose crank from an early build capri XR2.

Hey guys, Well my alternator went out a couple of weeks ago. And while it's apart I decided to go ahead and attack the wobbly crank pulley issue. Fortunately it's not to bad. I have few questions...The v-belt crank pulley looks to have a rubber o-ring in it. (I'm assuming this is for harmonics) There is one spot about 1/2" long that the rubber is cracked, on the opposite side of the pulley the rubber is sunken in around the same area (pics below) Does it need replacing???
I believe that I may have a very minor leak around the crank as well, should I attempt to change out the seal??? Also the tensioner pulley sounds like there's a hand full of rocks in it, and the idler is on it's way. so those to are on the list The trip to the dealership wasn't very pleasing either... $8 for the key, $51 for the crank timing pulley,$17 for the bolt, $100 tensioner & $89 for the idler.
My lower timing belt covers are shot too. Anyone have extras?? If you guys have any leads on parts suppliers please let me know.
                      Thanks

i have a complete set of plastics if needed plus i have a very clean lower crank pulley if yours is small nosed (i cant tell by pics) let me know i bought a complete tensioner and idler pulley with timing belt off ebay for around 50 bucks i looked @ them once they got here and against the parts house replacement and they where the exact same not even the numbering was different. way to save a few bucks on it.
