You go through cars like I do, good man! Excited to see another KL zx2 since you know you will KL swap it, lol! I am still sort of tempted to build a 3rd gen kl since they give no F's about emission or inspection here! But it'll more then likely be an NB or RX-7 I build next! I still have a lot to do on the wagon before those ever come to light though! Enjoy the Nanar, it's quite a nice example of an S/r good sir!

Been a while since I last updated this.
This thing is in the early stages of a full race build. I want to be the fastest time of the day at next years RMMR Auto-X, and I would be stoked to get a shot at running the Pikes Peak Hill climb next year too.
I just bought a 230V Lincoln 180HD Mig welder, JD2 Model 32 Tube bender, a few die sets for the bender, a JD2 tubing notcher, a badass set of drill bits and hole saws, a 10 piece Dimple Die set with 1/2" to 3" and DZUS, Air over Hydraulic Ram for the Bender, 20ton Press, and a few other tools for this build. I'd like to find a drill press too...
The plan is to strip and Seam-weld the chassis, build lexan windows for the sides/rear, then swap in the suspension/brakes/wheels/tires from the white escort (except with ZX2 front and Quickor Rear swaybars), a KLG4 with a holset HY35, Megasquirt/550's and E85, Mfactory diff and Ferdi trans plate, Ryan's traction bars on Jim's LCA's w/Ryan's Spherical bushings tied together with Jim's 4pt tiebar, lose 4-500 LBS, add a full cage, reinforcements, and tubular front, dimpled aluminum under-body Aero, then let this thing rip.

Just curious why this chassis?
I would think the body would be stiffer than the hatchback would be which is good, but I would also think the white car would be lighter in the end.92 Mazda MX3 GS> For sale, $1750 OBO

It will be stiffer for sure. As far as weight, I think they'll be pretty similar at the end stage... BUT, there's something just wrong about a 4 door that has been gutted and caged if that car also came in a 2 door version. No point in having doors that don't really do anything. The longer coupe doors are easier for entry with a cage, and I'll be moving the seating position rearward quite a bit, so b-pillars being further back will help visibility... Cutting five lexan windows beats making nine. There is also a hair more wheel well in the ZX2, so in future years I'll have the room to run more tire. The ZX2 nerds will **** when they see what I've done, which is hilarious, and my passengers will finally enjoy the white car again once it has softened, and regains air conditioning and a few other creature comforts.
Most importantly, there is something about this bright ass color... I think I'll have a cool little car that stands out. Being that both my bosses have bright orange Foci, the yellow ZX2 will fit in better than the white 5-door does. I guess part of it is image, but mostly, I don't want to rid myself of the S/R. I've wanted one for my collection for a while, and I only got to enjoy it for a little while before it got crankwalk.
I have talked the GF into letting me keep the white car, as long as I get rid of the black and silver cars, as well as her '63 Meteor, and eventually build her a pre-war Ford pickup.Current:

Some progress! I'm about 30 hours in. It's down to a shell with doors and a windshield. I've started some stitch welding. I've got a laundry list of shopping to do, things like tilton floor-mount pedals, materials for the cage and aero, seats, steering wheel, holset turbo, better clutch, etc.
I've recently picked up a set of Jim Pierce's tubular LCA's, Quickor rear swaybar, MFactory 500hp rated 3rd-5th gears and high lock Diff, and Ferdi's 5th gear plate.
Tools I've gathered for this project include a Lincoln 180HD Mig welder, hydraulic hole punch with 3/4 - 2-1/2 inch die sets, JD2 tubing notcher and Model 32 mandrel bender with die sets for 1" as well as 1.25" and 1.75" tubing, swag offroad hydraulic conversion kit for the bender and a .5"-3" dimple die set that was made to work with the hydraulic punch-out tool, as well as some smaller odds and ends...
