    cat as a muffler tip?

so i had this idea the other day. about how to give a nice obvious middle finger to big brother. you drive around day to day with a straight pipe exhaust, but then come emissions time, you take a catalytic converter and just clamp it on to the tip of your exhaust. think it would work?

the only thing i'm not sure about is whether the cat will be able to get hot enough to work properly.

i just think it would be awesome to pass emissions like that, then the second you pull off the rollers, to get out and take your cat off. which because it's clamped onto your exhaust tip, is hanging out like a foot past your bumper

see in ny i cant pass a car thats missing a cat, atleast anything 20-25 yrs old or newer. but im curious to the cat behind the muffler....lol... i dont think i could pass it and let it go on my card....lol.... others might due to it just being there, i mean i know alot of shops wholl pass if your cats there , even if its hollow, if its there its cool....

          Cat?

I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

well i guess the sticking out past the bumper part is just to be super cocky. but i mean, you could also do it so that the tip of the exhaust looks stock

i dunno , theres not much about a muffler or exhaust here, just that it needs a cat. the rest is up the the cops discretion..... basically which douche cop with the loud car or bike wants to tell you your cars a lil loud and give you a ticket....lol...

Ok, i can't post in this thread without saying it, but you should run a cat.

But the most elegant solution would be to measure teh stock cat, and have a pipe qith flanges made and jsut bolt it in whenever you have to get tested. Somehow I don't think any authorities would be dumb enough to believe you run a cat after your muffler at the end of the car.

As to the warming up, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't get hot enough to properly operate.

^^^^^ exactly the catalyst has to operate within a certain heat range or it will no do anything to reduce emissions . It's distance from the motor on each car is actually engineered ... not random

for a cat to work it has to reach a certain temperature so it can burn off the bad chemicals.
it relies on pressure, and residual exhaust heat to do this.
if it is so far from the engine, it wont benefit from this heat, and perform substandardly, if at all.
in my opinion, leave emissions control device placement to the people with the engineering degrees

                      besides?
do you really want that black crud all over the back of your car from running without a cat?

theres no emissions regulations here, i still have a cat. it feels unethical not to.

None hear either, shops will actually ask if you want to keep it or remove it.

i'm going to be making a custom exhaust once i go gtx, and i really don't want to spend $100 on something i don't want. that's why i was thinking of just sticking my stock one on the end just for when i have to get tested.

i'm planning on doing something along these lines anyway so noise will never be an issue. http://www.wihandyman.com/forum/show...=open+downpipe
