How much do you know about train horns?

I need some suggestions about train horns because I want to get one installed in my car. Thanks

    Welcome to CP.

Nathan and Leslie are the two major OEM manufacturers of authentic train horns actually used on railroad locomotives. They have single, dual, triple and 5-way horn setups.
Locomotive horn rebuilding and tuning, available new horns, and horn valves.

    Some other vendors:

Also check ebay - they usually have some good deals.

    Happy Motoring!

I prefer dixie horns myself... the Wolo ones are the better of the two that makes them.

Then again I really enjoyed watching the dukes of hazzard as a child

It will also wake the dead from 2 miles away and more than likely shatter your eardrums from inside the car if you actually installed these underhood. Which you couldn't, without removing the engine, cuz they won't fit otherwise.

you can get compact electric train horns that are a little more tame. it would be nice for getting deer/cows/bears/horses/moose to get the heck out of the road when you see them.

I saw a video on youtube a while back of a geo metro in NYC downtown setting off their train horns. Then you see all the people in the shops jump out of their skin!

be careful. a friend of mine got arrested for having train horns on his truck. there illegal on cars and trucks, and can take it really seriously. dont be using it anywhere near a town basically.

id just get a set of Hella Supertone horns. there legal, and still make people jump out of there shoe's. streetsideauto has them for like $50 last i knew also.

Heh.. I just looked at your hornblasters.com link. Those ain't train horns. They might be advertising 'em as such, but they ain't train horns. What them thangs are, are toys compared to, the OEM horns on yer freindly local Union Pacific...I bet they're more than loud enough for any automotive purpose though. Certainly easier to install than the assembly on my neighbor's log truck, what with the more'n 2 foot long low horn and the at least 20 galloon dedicated air tank and engine-driven compressor.

wow. thanks everyone for the replies, definitely a lot of things to consider here.

i was not looking to install an actual train horn on a car, but a lot of these companies/websites advertise them as such. i will be checking many of the sites that you guys mentioned here to see which one can answer my questions the best, and have the best reviews.

a couple of people have told me to use http://trainhorns.net or ebay, but ive been warned to stay away from ebay since many of the products are cheaply made. but when it comes to these other sites, like the ones mentioned above, what type of setup do you suggest?

i am looking for something that is really loud, but i do not want to cause injury to myself or others. any tips would be helpful. thanks again.
