Yes, I think some serious scandal is about to be revealed. There is talk that he had put his "friend" on the state payroll in a job as state security director that paid $110,000 per year. The man was later fired and as I understand it (I could be wrong here), this same individual may be bringing a sexual harassement lawsuit against McGreevey in retaliation.Originally posted by zerocover
Quite apart from the sexual aspects of McGreeveys tenure in office, he has been accused of a number of ethical lapses and misconduct in his behavior as governor but has never been legally charged in the formal sense. This, of course, may change as new revelations are brought forth.
The worst aspect of all of this is that McGreevey's resignation is not effective until November 15th. The reason for this is that according to NJ law, if a governor resigns this close to election day, a new election cannot be held for governor. Since NJ has no lieutenant governor position, the person chosen to replace McGreevey will be the president of the NJ senate. This man is a democrat like McGreevey, a close supporter of McGreevey and his policies and just another professional politician. Thus, the people of NJ will be denied the right to vote for a candidate of their own choosing and instead will have another McGreevey clone rammed down their throats.
If McGreevey resigned now or at least two months before the next election day (I believe that is the minimum time period specified by NJ law), a special election would be called and the people would have the right to choose whether it be another democrat, a republican or an independent. The fact that McGreevey is blocking this outcome is a final testament to the man's character and will always be remembered as a part of his legacy.
