    your VIN and car keys

Dateline just did a special where they wrote down VINs from a buch of cars and at 6 out of 10 dealers they got keys for the car without ever being asked for ID.

Apparently the NYC affiliate even managed to get keys to a New Jersey police cruiser that way!

I installed a piece of laminated card to match the color of my dashboard a long time ago... to cover the VIN plate on my dashboard

oh... and to get your panties in a bunch and hate our government more for making stupid laws:
-in Europe and Japan, license plate info is CLOSELY held in secret and is only accessible by government officials/law enforcement agencies (not true here... many people can access the info, including parking companies!)
-in Europe and the rest of the world (except Canada/Mexico), the VIN plate is not required to be on the dashboard but is to be mounted on the firewall (just as tamper proof but more theft deterant because it's not easily visible!)

What happens when you send me PMs such as:
-Sending me a stupid question (no common sense, no logic, impractical, etc)
-Sending me a question that can be found searching or in the FAQ
-Sending me an illegible question (ie: bad grammar)
No you WON'T get flamed, you'll get ignored. The results will vary if you send flames/insults
