How did you end up with your BG?

    its story time kids!

my driving carreer began with a white 88 vw golf GL 4dr. i hated the color, but loved this car. i wanted a 92 GTI 2.0 16v like there was no tomorrow (first car syndrome i guess, but i still like them a lot). unfortunately one day the floor rusted so bad that the seat brackets broke off the floor when i pushed the clutch in, and the seat tipped right over. move on to car #2...

my dad picked up a white 94 escort wagon AUTO, with a blue interior. i despised this cars entire existance. i hate white. i hate autos. i hated wagons at the time. the blue interior looked ghey. so 2 days after we got it i rear ended someone while working delivering pizza. it really wasnt on purpose, but after all the bitching i did about the car my father thought it was.

i went away to college for a semester. during this time my dad fixed the car. i came back home during christmas, the day after i got back i went to take this thing to the movies... hit a patch of black ice and tagged a pickup truck nearly head on. i think this car had it out for me. my dad eventually fixed it and my brother drove it, but i had moved onto my next car by then.

so i was stuck with no wheels at all for a while. my grandfather picked up a green escort wagon 5speed with a bad clutch really cheap (like $50). he did the clutch, rear struts, brakes, etc. my parents basically forced me to buy it from him for $500... they were sick of bringing me everywhere (i dont blame them). i HATED it at first due to the first escort i had driven. it quickly grew on me .

this was when i went online and found feoa.net. after a while that lead me over here... as i learned more about the BP motor. i picked up a tracer LTS parts car intending to attempt a BP swap on the wagon since its clutch was once again toast (my grandfather did it wrong). the motor in it burned a lot of oil... so i hunted down an EGT at the junkyard and left a deposit on the motor/trans because he was waiting on the title for the car before he could part it out. went back a week or two later and the car was gone... he sold it all off and crushed it, i was PISSED. gave me my deposit back and i went home.

picked up a 3 week old newspaper to look for a new car because the clutch in the wagon was just about undriveable. low and behold... 91 EGT, $500. called the guy... he still had it! it was almost a 2 hour drive each way - but i made it there and back with the wagon (barely) and left a deposit. went back and got it the next day with my friend, after driving the white auto wagon (of doom) to the DMV to transfer my plates lol. this was probably like the 5th trip i ever made driving this car... that didnt involve an accident.

then i decided that the BP was no longer enough... i needed a turbo. i picked up my gutted (but rust free) 95 EGT this summer for $300, and the BPD this fall :D. cant drive right now... but in a month that changes, and the EGTR will be on the road ASAP :D

well thats my epic journey to and through BG-ness. who else has got one?

i became a member on this site...went away for some time, then came back...saw a bunch of pictures of the 323 and how nice those can look, so i put the thought of owning one in the back of my mind...some time later spot one for $500 and snatch it and now it's sitting in my garage in 3 different colors and w/o a motor WOOHOO!

yeah my story is not as cool as yours but i just recently got into bg

My sister's first ride was a '93 Escort LX.........that lasted about a year and was replaced with her current '93 Protege LX(that she's crashed 4 times, lol). Anyways, my dad liked it so much that he decided to take $1100 out of my bank account one day when he picked me up at work, and said we were going to buy a car for me. That car was the car I just parted with.

I originally wanted a civic for my first car so I didn't want the Protege or like it at first, but as I learned about it, I was happy I had gotten an LX, and I wouldn't want to have done it any other way.

I've moved on since my first car, but I'm on to bigger and better things.

I watched my mom and dad go through about 10 vehicles since we moved to MA. (I was born here and moved to Cali before I turned 2. And then came back and I think turned 6, am now turning 18 in March.) Well, my dad had a green explorer that he had crashed, and it sat in the drive way for almost 2 years. Mom had a New Yorker, but it needed work, or something so she sold it and bought a Mercury Tracer. But that again needed work so she sold it and bought the ole 94 Protege DX from my brothers girlfriends mother. I kept saying I wanted to fix the broken truck and drive that around because it would probably be cheaper then buying a new car. Got my permit, started driving my moms car. Got my lisence, got the truck fixed, made my mom drive the truck instead. Mom technically still owns it but, its deffinately my car. =P <3 Protege.

I bought the first green Lx 5 spd for my kid in June of '02, figured it would be a neat lil slow Jap car he couldn't get in much trouble with. Got it off Ebay in Dallas for like $1500.
Flew up there, got the car home and fixed the little problems it had. I quickly realized I had screwed up by getting him this car, because it *had* some power.
He wrecked it twice, last time spinning it into the divider on the freeway, totalling it.
My older son got a '94 Dx sometime in '03 or early '04 and still has it. He's had a couple fender benders, but nothing a well timed trip to Pick-n-Pull can't fix. Oh yeah, he cooked a tranny by letting it run dry.
I bought myself a white '94 Lx from the police impound for $210, and spent another $1100 on it fixing it up, only to realize it was a POS and beyond my time and patience, Sold it for $1100 and was happy to see it go.
We found another 5 spd LX for $1200 for the younger car killer, he paid half this time. He's had a crash in this one (that makes 3 now)but we fixed it from P-n-P parts.
We helped the older kid's GF get a '92 or '93 Dx sometime in '04, she still has it.
By this time, I was on the prowl for another one for myself.
I remembered that there was a green LX on the East side just like the first one that the kid wrecked. I got it for $250(Oct '05). After a 2 or 3 month battle trying to get the title, I was finally able to start seriously working on it . That's the one I'm selling now.
A friend from work had another Dx that he wanted to unload and I got it for $100
running. Total POS.. I had it all of 2-3 days and sold it for $225(I think).
Now that I've got the Mazda 3 hatch, the Protege just sits.....

My turn. I was a honda nut. I owned a 87 si,88 4dr then a 93 ex. I loved the ex cause it was my grandmothers and didn't have **** for miles when I gave her 8k for it. Did work on it for the next couples years then decided to sell it cause it was an auto. In the time I had my ex my buddy had his pro lx. He wanted me to do research for him to see what parts he can get for it. I found protegeclub and corksport. Then didn't think much about it after that. I sold the ex and bought a 92 teg gs. That lasted all of about 6 months to a year b4 I was sick of fixing it. My buddy wanted me to store his lx in my garage cause the repo man was looking for it. It sat there for about 2-3 months. He asked if I knew anyone that wanted to buy the lx cause he didn't want to screw his credit up. I asked him what the payoff was. I knew what problems the car ever had so I knew it was in good shape. We went down to the place and I dropped the remaning 2200 to pay it off. Sold the teg and drove the lx around and fell in luv with it. Almost 3 years later and the worst thing that ever happened was the water pump went out. Then jan '05, BAM!!!!!! Tboned, totaled. Broke my fkn heart. Drove to miami and bought my current lx. I don't think I could ever own anything else. Reliable, cost efficient and deffinetly a competiter.

The 91 Protege DX sat in their yard for about a year! My friend gave it to me for $1... Had to drive it home 2 miles. Jumped it and it started right up! It had 265k miles from original owners. Interior needed to be cleaned, done that. Needed new belts and seals and hoses, DONE. Still have to do water pump. car has been SO AWESOME! spent about 500 bux in parts and in title and tags. I cant complain. so gas efficient and would probably be better if i replcaed the fuel filter.... cheers.
