    How far would you drive?

Hey guys, im doing a bit of research for a project and I was wondering if you could answer a question for me

If there was some work that needed to be done on your car, how far would you be willing to drive in order to have a reputable shop do it? This could be any job you think would be suitable for a performance shop to do whether you're new to modifying your car or you're a pro.

(almost) as far as it takes to get someone who knows what they are doing to work on my car. of course, this coming from someone who has to drive 100+ miles to do any good shopping or racing or going to any good car shops.

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

Actually, I prefer the "Shadetree Mafia"...
If it can be done wrong, I will...somehow I always finish tearing things up before I can fix'em ...

i wouldnt drive any distance... and the only distance i would travel would be the distance for the tow truck to get my car to my house... especially with how important my car was to me... a shop doesnt get it done as fast as i could... i had a tranny replaced at a shop shortly after i got my car (my dad didnt trust me to do it) and it took like a week and a half to get it back... I know alot of that was it sitting waiting its turn in the shop but its still time i didnt have it. when i could easily pull into a garage or shop and do it myself in 6 hrs. my own work, i trust myself to work on my car.

If a car needs work, usually it cant drive anywhere 99% of the time, so this question kinda cancels itself out.

Honestly, I agree with the above post. I cant bring myself to let anyone work on my car. Im OCD like that, plus I just plain dont trust anyone working on my ****.

As far as machine work and such that I dont have the access of tools for (headwork ect) I really have no choice, but I do my (extensive) research.

....why, are you thinking of starting a shop for fellow mazda owners to come hang out while you wrench?

Well for the guys that do most of the work yourself, think of a circumstance where it is impossible for you to do it yourself and you MUST take it to someone else.... say a dyno run, or as someone said a machining shop.

How far would you go, to ensure you had someone you trust?

Im mainly referring to planned modifications. Not necessarily spur of the moment emergencies. In those cases, most people have to make best with what they have in that area.

I'll explain a bit more after another day or so, just so my comments or opinions do not skew the results

One 100 mile trip is better then 10, 20 mile trips that cost 9x more in the end!

I only have to drive like 3 miles to get to the shop I trust.

But, if I didn't do what I did, I'd drive as far as I had to to feel good about who was touching my car................not like I'd ever let any one do that anyways.

                            Concur,

I agree, most of my work is done myself, Where I get all tore up is on my damned Detroit Diesel, that one us not cheap.

My Mazda is a fairly cheap fix. I feel a need comming to change the water Pump and Timming belts. This Mechanic has done the major work on this car since new. It was going to the crusher when I got it. I hope I never have to be without it, cheap to operate and has performance. BP. Ford needs new eyes. Or loose. The Taurus is comming back. I known one than should over the Taurus but Ford is ford. The Light Bulb people.
