Dude has video evidence of techs on a joyride (Legacy GT forums)

A friend forwarded me to this thread on my350z.com forums and thought you guys might want to see this:

This kind of happened to me when I had my Stealth go in for tire mounting. I was outside the shop on the phone when I see a 18 year old high school kid get in my car, reved the **** out of it, and rode the clutch all the way to the shop. I followed to the shop and when he stepped out of the car I yelled: "Was that fun?" So the manager ran to were we wore and I explained everything and I demanded that they didn't charge me for the tire installation and they did. I was about to knock that dude out! lol Since then, I bring just the rims and tires for mounting or balancing

It would be naive to think that this doesn't happen ALL THE TIME (ps, be sure to tip your valet...)

However, doing that when they KNOW there are cameras in the car is criminally stupid.

        I broke the transmission in a 3000GT vr4 when I was 17. It was a customers car.

I'm not tellin' what shop it was . It was a childish move. Pretty dicked, but I wanted to drive it cos I didn't have one.

It got covered under factory warranty. Techs do stuff like that all the time.

At least it's not as bad as this: Car Bangers

I write my mileage down and if its over what I feel is appropriate for the repairs, then they have explaining to do. It has happened about 3 times. Each time the repairs were free and the apologies were endless. It has happened twice with oil changes and once with a timing belt.

                    tr00f!

when i did collision work, we needed to "test" the car and make sure it drove straight ad didnt rattle.

and if it was a corvette or above then it needed testing at slightly higher speeds

of course i would never do anything to harm the car but alittle fun never hurt

                          For camber/caster or toe?

Camber and caster they make a reasonably inexpensive tool for- we have one at the shop.

Toe you can do with a piece of string.

Or if you're lazy, find a trustworthy mechanic. Preferably at a shop that doesn't have 20 year old morons doing the work.

                            camber and toe

i sit at the shop and watch while they do the alignment.

i'd bring it to mark for alignments but his rack is broken.

here is my .02 on the topic...

If you have a fun fast car and you bring it to a shop to have it worked on you had better know that it will be driven how it was made to be able to handle. It is unrealistic for you to think that a mechanic is responsible to fix a problem and not test it how the car can be driven by the owner, so when you come back bitching and moaning about it doing something goofy its the mechanics fault and he gets to redo it for free?

I will say I got to "repair" the coolest vehicle I have been able to drive as of yet the other day. an 07 SRT8 jeep grand cherokee. The owner complained of "torque steer under hard acceleration". Which made it even better because I was basically asked to go out and mash on this and tell them what their problem is. I had a healthy respect for it as I had not driven one before so i didnt flog on it but a 0-60 run was pulled off with no effort and chirping the nearly 12" wide rear tires at like 2/3 throttle turning back onto the main road was no problem (I had to try to get it to tq steer worse than what a 6.1l 420hp beast would naturally create).

ANYWAY, my story is kinda off topic (just had so much fun doing it!) as like i said we were asked to drive it hard, and there is absolutely no excuse for people driving it just to drive it so the people in this video are completely out of line, but out of respect for those working on your car, when you come back because something is rattling like crazy at 6500 rpms and the noise is comming from the vicinity of where you just had work done, that is not only the techs time looking it over again, it is bad to have come backs period.... Its not like they are raising the rev limiter and wrapping it out to 10k and having a merry old time, they are doing what the manufacturer has said the car can handle and what the customer will do themselves to ensure a complete fix.
