Have we lost any engines with the cold weather?

I know we all put antifreeze in our cars, right?

with the BP you NEED anti-freeze anyway sinces its a cast iron block.

but back to the subject at hand, we just had to do the headgasket on rusty323's B6T due to overboosting in cold weather.

lol, I don't think it's due to the weather though. I've had a suspected "lifter tick" for a few months.

yep, even my 626 (n/a kl) i let warm up 5 minutes before workin the morning, and a minimum of 2-3mins any other time.

Engines only have to run 30 seconds to raise oil pressure and lubricate all the components tho...unless you're boosted haha, then i'd recommend a block heater!

i helped save a sohc BP so far. a friends car had a thick golden rust coolent. it was slightly leaking at his waterpump, and the color wasnt even slightly see through. it was by far the worst ive ever seen.

did two hardcore coolent flush's. still wasnt 100% clean. while doing that, realized the reason his cooling system was crap wasnt even just the fluid. his waterpump had destroyed itself. so ended up replacing that also.

50/50 water and coolant, give it a couple of mins to warm up before i drive, no boost until its up to temp. Cars been ok apart from me leaving the handbrake on the other night and it freezing up, dragging the rear wheel up the road. Hammer and some de-icer soon sorted it.

i let my winter car warm up for 10min before i even think about leaving. its too cold to even try driving without the heat already going. lol

the BEST mixture would be 70% antifreeze 30% water. "straight" antifreeze will freeze at the same temp as like 38% antifreeze..

personally i run 50/50 in all my cars. not too often that we see -30* F temps...

If I can run 50/50 here and never had a problem, everyone should be fine with 50/50.
