    Salvage title.

So as some of you know I have been thinking about buying a truck well I found a really sweet 97 GMC Sonoma ZR2 with a V-6 the 4.3. The truck looks great from the pictures the only problem I see it that is has a salvage title. I've heard it's tough to get insurance for a vehicle with one. I know a insurance company will issue a salvage title for really minor things too. As anyone had any experience with buying a car/truck with a salvage title with it?

I would talk to your insurance provider about coverage issues... I know like 3 years ago when I was looking for a car I considered some salvage title vehicles, My insurance provider told me they didnt have any special treatment for a salvage title vehicle.

Personally I dont see anything wrong with picking one up, just look it over well, inspect the area it was hit for a proper repair. I know I looked at a 98 volvo V70 that was a beautiful blue color, it had a salvage title, and when I popped the hood and inpected the corner, I could see the inner fender mostly covered by the fender that it was wrinkled up still.

It just irritate me when I see people selling salvage title vehicles for what they should be (or more) if they were repaired by a reputable shop completely... So, they took a big paycheck for the vehicle and instead of properly repairing it slapped a fender on it and went to the strip club, they want way more than its worth considering the covered up damage and think it compairs to other properly repaired vehicles... yeah, right.

I ran across a beautiful Miata a while back for a more then decent price but my insurance company wouldn't touch it. The ONLY thing wrong with it was the left front headlight did'nt go down all the way. I was highly miffed about it.

it really depends on your state man. every state is different, and has different laws. here in IL you couldnt just walk in to the DMV and get plates for it. it would need to be fully inspected by the secretary of state police. its a big pain. plus the fact its really hard to re-sell a vehicle once its been tagged with that.

My dad bought a wrecked 2001 taurus wagon and fixed it up. It had a salvage title. We fixed it and then it was inspected. After that, we had no trouble geting insurance or plates for it.

Here in CT you need to have all repair reciepts, pictures before and after of damaged areas, and inspected. IMHO all that isnt worth it.

We need repair reciepts only for: Air bags, wind shields, and impact sensors. Everything else can be boughten used. We do need pictures of before and after, though. And the inspection only takes about an hour. So not that bad if you can get the car cheap enough.
