              holds in moisture maybe?

If you really want a manifold to last a long ass time, powdercoat it.

It doesnt hold in any moisture. in fact when installing it you are supposed to wet the heat wrap so it stretches a little. And when u start the car and it heats up andtightens the wrap. HEader wrap does not hold moisture, any moisture on the wrap burns off immediatly, everytime i wash my car and drive it afterward it steams al lthe moisture off. Today i took the wrap off to put the turbo manifold on, and its still the same condition. It has some type of coating on the wrap to keep the moisture off, and to hold the heat. Powder coating protects from rust, which his manifold has already done. So its already a little late for that. header wrap doent hold any moisture, but it does keep the heat down, its a very very noticeable difference. I have never even felt my wrap wet, except for when it was being installed and i wet it to stretch it.

I say heat wrap it, and put the plate there, that heat plate alone will do nothing but.get hot and transfer the heat, to the hood. so liek i said earlier u might just have a hot aluminum plate over your turbo manifold. ill sell u my lef ttesticle if that heat shield doesnt turn into a heat magnet, for your engine bay..

Didnt know that you had to wet it upon install.... Sorry I was just grasping for an answer at why header wrap is bad.....

                    care to enlighten us charles?

i could always sandblast the rust off, its only surface rust, then have it powdercoated, but i dont feel like doing that cause its my daily driver.

that would be ideal. Even if its a dd, that will keep it problem free for much longer.
