    2 1/2 exhaust

Today I got the car from the exhaust shop.
    :D

Full 2 1/2 exhaust from the turbo flange ( downpipe, mid resonator, cat, and rear muffler).

It ran my 830 euro total.

If you remember, I was running the gtr engine with a 1.75 inch exhaust and the stock cat from the 1.6 for almost a year now.

I was running at 8 psi max and now I can hit 12.5 psi on high rpm due to the beloved boost creep.
I installed the wideband lambda sensor that I got 2 weeks ago and the pressure sensor. I could not find a bung for the EGT probe ( it was 1/8 NPT) so I'm going to search to the local performance stores to see if it can be fitted to a bung from another egt probe.

During the removal of the stock system a bolt on the stock downpipe ****ed us for a couple of hours. We had to remove the radiator to have access to the bolt (which meant we had to remove the pipe that comes off the turbo to the i/c)
The we had to unbolt a cooling line, and at the end it was damn hard to unbolt it...

We also removed the manifold heat shield and found a crack on it :S but I was told that it may not cause a problem.

So here are the pics. :D

    Mid resonator and cat.

    Here they are installed.

    The crack :S.

    The downpipe.

The back muffler and my previous mid resonator.

    Back muffler installed.

The wbo2 sensor installed after the spiral and before the cat.

I'll see if I can take a video of the car to upload it.
    It surely hauls ass now...

Looks good man, but how come you didn't go with a 3" on the GTR?

If you're running the GTR computer, you are good with boost up to ~18-19 psi.

Every muffler shop that I visited, told me it would be too big for the turbo. you could see benefits of the 3 inch after 280 hp. On many topics on 323gtx.co.uk I read that 3 inch would move the powerband upper in the rpm range so I chose the 2 1/2 piping. The sound would also be a lot bigger.

I think I need another pump now because on the way home, while flooring it in 3rd gear, on the higher revs I saw 13.0 a/f. I know the ecu has fuel and ingition maps for that big boost but I thing the pump that I have is from a n/a 1.8 so it seems to struggle on high rpm/high loads.

I would definitly upgrade the fuel pump. Find a walbro 255lph and you will be set.

that sounds about right, dealing with the powerband. i would have voted on just a bit bigger, maybe 2.5 but i cant say ****, i dont have boost.

Damn.. Last night I hit almost 1 bar and blew a collar.
Fortunately it didn't go totally off and could drive around. :D
I need to secure all the intake piping now.
I can't think what pressure I could hit with a 3 inch system...

one bar is not that big of a deal. its when you hit 20+psi then you are cooking! teh 3" wouldn't change your boost much more then the 2.5". mainly due to the fact you kept your cat. man they are a waste! its the restriction from the cat that holds people back.

Seriously, it doesn't if you have a new Metal Cat. You can freaking see straight through them. THey are super high flow, you don't notice it at all. After I went from 1.6L cat to Metal cat, I started getting boost creep and spikes up to around 2-2.5 bar. It was crazy.
