    what is this thing?

oh thats a differential!!!!! and notice the whiteline sway bar? here maybe this will help...

    ...

    bottom bad, top good!

the pickup... Thanks jay for the car, the info and the goodies!

and lastly the LAST smile my wife will EVER have near this car

basically not much will be happening to this for a while, ill work on maintainance, im picking up another cylinder head tomorrow to hopefully solve the burning oil issue, i replaced the bad strut today... then ill just enjoy driving it. It may need a clutch soon, but I have an old ACT clutch with a bp flywheel ill replace it with if need be.

Nice to see another owner out there. I've got one just like it, more or less. Funny blue, some rocker panel rust, but not too much, now rolling on Miata 7 spoke rims, Dunlop SP8000s, rear spoiler from an EGT, 2nd geb RX7 steering wheel, LX insturment cluster, J-spec headlights. I know, why bother with a car that old and slow, I had the parts lying around. Maybe when the rally car gets it's new engine, I'll swap in the old BP into the Protege 4x4.

yeah ill have to get more pictures tomorrow... i replaced that bad strut today (thats how i got the picture of it )... the smoking thing is just boggling my mind because sometimes it doesnt smoke at all not even the slightest puff on startup... then othertimes its like burning oil as fast as gas.

we washed the car also and buffed it out a bit, the headlights look SO much better, and as for the rest of the car i wont know till tomorrow (comming from alaska where its now daylight ALL day/night this whole getting dark thing sucks!) it drives great but i hate how sloppy the cable shifter is compaired to my last bronzoil bushing setup on my escort.

My engine does the same thing, 215K miles on it. I'm guessing it's the valve guides, but I'm not 100% sure. I burn anywhere from 1/4 a qrt per gas tank to a full qrt, depending on temp and how hard I push it.

haha... i just went to deq expecting the big FAIL (im sure you can see where this is going), i passed! so now all i need is insurance, and the title whenever jay gets it and sends it to me (he still hasnt recieved it yet from the dealership he purchased it from) and im good to go.

The car drives great... im not sure if its the independant rear suspension or the whiteline sway bar, but it handles so nice and makes so little noise A+ car!

it will be ready to drive... boosted i cannot garantee, I want it to be but i cannot spend money like i used too so this will be a bit slower project. i hope to have the turbo on by the end of summer but im not holding my breath.

If i could find a deciently priced GTX/R tranny id be more likely to have it boosted by then.

From the pics it doesn't look like it is rusted as bad as mine was. I kinda like the color, too. If we can get this meet sorted out it would be cool to see it in person. Good score by the way, 4WD FTW boosted 4wd even better

Jason it's no where NEAR as rusted as yours was... this one has brake rotors!

that is something that supprised me too... i thought these had rear drums, it was nice to figure that out, and the front discs are dohc brakes not the smaller sohc brakes. I had to replace the front rotors yesterday, the scale was so bad and the surface was so rough i had very little brakes, fortunatly it seems that the brakes were recently done (fewer miles ago, everything was well lubed and there was decent pad life up front) then it sat for a while rusting up the rotors really bad... 42 bucks later and im on the road again!

also i found in the glove box the little dealership book they give you when you buy the car... nothing was in it except all the registrations since 99, this car has passed through alot of hands there were like 5, 3 of which (99 to 01 i believe) were in juneau alaska (as jay remembered i almost bought an alaska car and brought it home) then bellingham washington, i didnt get the full scoup from jay but i believe he bought it from a dealership, so the guy who brought it to bellingham must have traded it in for another vehicle or something... either way its mine now!!!

btw ill have to get a picture of the cool aftermarket block heater setup! (dear god please be aftermarket) more pictures soon!
