got the head surface almost completely sanded.
hours & hours spent with 180 grit sandpaper smoothing out the deck surface.
OEM mazda used some strange cutter which left alot of high/low spots- which is alright if i was using another **** graphite type gasket.
but not the case for any MLS.
Tomorrow i'll be spending my time cleaning out all of the debris/sanding dust. A joyous task---
how much do you trust the flatness of your sanding work? I'd be leery of someone doing that on a non-critical surface, much less the engine deck. Hope you have a good indicator!

I agree. I wouldn't have ever tried that. But then again, if it works, you saved a bit of money. Only thing is, if it doesn't work, you gotta tear it all down again to have it done right.

if it doesn't work im pulling the whole engine out & changing the block. can't be ****ed throwing more money into machining the bottom end(crankshaft/bearing costs/etc)
considering the **** i've seen come out of the oil changes/many filters im honestly surprised this motor is still intact.
I really hope that things seals up. MLS gaskets like a mirror finish and dont seal well to surface imperfections like graphite gaskets do.
I have seen other people use that copper spray a gasket stuff on MLS headgaskets with less then perfect surface finish as extra insurance and it seems to work.
